From Product Export to Systematic Empowerment: Yuanyuda Dives into Africa's Blue Ocean to Explore New Paths in International Agricultural Trade

Oct 30, 2026

In recent years, as China's domestic agricultural and livestock industry has entered a phase of zero-sum competition, "going global" to seek a second growth curve has become an industry consensus. But what does the real African market actually look like? How should Chinese enterprises enter it precisely?

Recently, Mr. Yang Zhizhong, Chairman of Shanghai Yuanyuda International Trade Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of Yuda Machinery), joined a 15-day in-depth business delegation across Egypt, Ethiopia, and Kenya. As the head of a trading company deeply rooted in the global agricultural supply chain, Mr. Yang not only visited leading Chinese enterprises expanding overseas but also went deep into local farms and workshops of all sizes. Below is his first-hand account of the insights gained during the journey, along with his strategic thinking for Yuanyuda in the African market.

Stop 1: Benchmarking Leaders – The "Steadiness" and "Speed" of Chinese Enterprises

(Core Insight: Going global is more than product export; it's about integrating into the local ecosystem.)

Our first stop was in Egypt, where we visited New Hope Egypt and Haid Egypt.

New Hope entered Egypt in 2011 and now accounts for about 10% of the country's total feed production. Haid, on the other hand, demonstrated astonishing "China Speed," achieving a 95% localization rate while their Phase II and III factories are in full swing. When talking with their executives, the words "integration" and "ecosystem" were mentioned repeatedly.

For us at Yuanyuda, this sends a strong signal: International trade is no longer just a simple "buy-and-sell" or a mere transfer of production capacity. As Chinese enterprises secure their foothold overseas, they inevitably need to be matched with automated and intelligent Chinese agricultural equipment. As a bridge connecting China's premium manufacturing with the global market, Yuanyuda's core value lies in integrating top-tier supply chains to provide seamless, underlying support for these enterprises going global.

Stop 2: Spotting the Gap – From "Tin-Roofed Workshops" to Fully Automated Coops

(Core Insight: Where there is a pain point, there is an opportunity. We must abandon "copy-paste" approaches and provide tiered systematic solutions.)

At Riyadh Farm near the Meidum Pyramid in Egypt, the owner, Egan Kaley, showed us three distinct farming models he operates across different sites. Here, the industry gap of several decades hasn't been bridged by time; instead, it coexists within the same farmer's business portfolio: on one side is a traditional semi-open coop with chicken feathers floating in the water troughs, and on the other is a fully enclosed, automated house where one person easily manages tens of thousands of chickens.

This massive "industrial gap" is even more striking in Kenya. At the Kenya Feed Association (AKEFEMA), I was shocked by a set of data: Kenya has an annual egg shortage of 4 billion, meaning they need at least 13 million more laying hens. However, on our way to the modern Kingrich Farm, we saw extremely rudimentary, manual workshop-style feed mills along the roadside.

The mistake many overseas enterprises make is blindly copying expensive, highly automated equipment from China. However, in regions with fragile infrastructure and after-sales networks, this will only drag clients down. Our key to breaking through at Yuanyuda is to provide "tiered systematic solutions": We not only output highly efficient environmental control and automation equipment for large-scale farms but also provide "modular, easy-to-maintain, and highly cost-effective" Chinese equipment for millions of small and medium-sized farmers. Selling standalone machines will only lead to a dead end. Integrating the supply chain to tailor solutions to local pain points is the true leap forward for Chinese agricultural equipment in this blue ocean.

Stop 3: Piercing the "Information Fog" – On-the-Ground Visits in Ethiopia

(Core Insight: The most expensive cost in international trade is information asymmetry. Field visits are the only solution.)

If Egypt is a market in the fast lane, Ethiopia is a newly awakened wilderness. The country ranks among the top five globally in livestock inventory, yet its feed processing and farming equipment sectors are extremely weak.

In Ethiopia, besides attending closed-door meetings to understand tax incentives, we went deep into local client visits. The rudimentary factories, aging equipment, and the clients' desperate desire to expand left a deep impression on me. Doing business overseas, the biggest taboo is relying on second-hand information. At Yuanyuda, we always insist on field visits. Only by measuring the land ourselves can we precisely grasp local policies and real market demands, providing our clients with the most reliable equipment import solutions and technical guidance.

Conclusion: Focusing on the Long Term and Uniting "Chinese Strength"

On the last day of our trip, we visited Nairobi National Park. Fourteen years ago, pioneers like New Hope planted the first seeds here; fourteen years later, following the Belt and Road footprint, Chinese agricultural enterprises are embracing an even broader blue ocean.

As the international trade platform under Yuda Machinery, I firmly believe that going global is not just a transfer of production capacity, but the empowerment of technology, the integration of supply chains, and the export of management expertise.

Facing the risks of exchange rate fluctuations, we need more flexible overseas trade structures; facing cultural differences, we need more sincere localized services; and facing the pains of technological upgrading, we need to deliver more tailored, tiered solutions.

When going global, we seek stability over speed, and a lasting foundation over short-term gains. Moving forward, Yuanyuda will continue to leverage China's strong manufacturing foundation, collaborate with more ecosystem partners, and dive deep into Africa's incremental market. Together, we will win this marathon of endurance, strategy, and partnership in this vast blue ocean.
